Frank Lloyd Wright - "Eaglefeather" House in Malibu, California - 1940

Frank Lloyd Wright's "Eaglefeather" was a grand 1940 design for an extensive cliffside estate in Malibu, California, commissioned by filmmaker Arch Oboler. While the spectacular main house remained an unbuilt masterpiece due to the complex terrain, several other structures were successfully completed on the 100-plus acre property, including a gatehouse and a small cottage known as "Eleanor's Retreat" These built portions, overseen by Wright's protégé John Lautner, utilized "desert masonry" to blend into the rugged landscape, featuring cantilevered forms that echoed the dramatic vision of the unbuilt residence.
