Americana 1 is a Cape Cod-influenced California cottage in Mar Vista, built around a vaulted great room and a series of distinct garden settings. White clapboard siding, painted brick, dark wood floors and informal family furnishings give it a lived-in Americana character. The house moves from intimate bedrooms and a galley kitchen to a generously scaled communal room, then out through multiple doors to decks, lawns and shaded play areas.

Vaulted Great Room Filming Angles

The cottage’s primary interior is a wide living room beneath a tall, white-painted plank ceiling with exposed rafters. A traditional chandelier drops from the ridge, while the dark floor and white brick fireplace hold contrast in wider frames. Low shelving runs beneath three broad windows, leaving a long, unobstructed background for the sofa, lounge chairs and tufted ottoman. This room receives the strongest natural light from that window wall, with additional side light entering through French doors on the adjoining wall. The combination creates bright frontal and three-quarter illumination through much of the day. As the sun moves, the adjoining dining bay and kitchen windows offer softer alternatives. Open connections between the living room, dining area and kitchen support layered sightlines and room-to-room movement.

Kitchen, Dining Bay And Bedrooms

A built-in banquette wraps around a substantial wood dining table beneath a woven pendant. Large corner windows place mature tree branches directly behind the seating, creating a contained breakfast nook with a leafy backdrop. The dining bay is particularly useful for television, giving domestic dialogue scenes opposing seats, practical windows and a direct view toward the living room. Beyond it, the narrow galley kitchen has white cabinetry, black counters, open shelving and wood worktops. Its compact proportions read as an authentic family kitchen rather than a showroom. A low-ceilinged main bedroom, a children’s room with a wood bunk bed and crib, and a small bathroom with a pedestal sink extend that everyday cottage vocabulary.

Lawns, Play Areas And Garden Backdrops

The grounds shift between open sun and dense tree shade. Steps and painted railings connect the white cottage to furnished decks, while a stone path leads through a large lawn to a circular paved bed with a galvanized planter. Tall hedges form green perimeter walls and keep many angles focused inward. Closer to the house, sandy play areas hold a raised play structure, slide and tire swing. A vivid pink wall creates a clean color field behind Adirondack chairs, and a second pink courtyard has a large framed chalkboard. Farther back, cobblestone and brick hardscape sit beneath mature trees with bench seating, a fire pit and a picnic table. These separated zones allow one yard to play as a polished cottage garden and another as a casual family backyard.

Production Access And Crew Space

The single-story cottage layout keeps interior moves direct, with the largest working footprint in the living room and exterior hardscape. Multiple glazed doors provide alternate transitions between the house, decks and garden, while long paths and open lawn edges create useful depth for exterior shots. Furnished patios can remain dressed as practical family environments. Arrival and staging benefit from easy access and ample parking, while FilmLA coordinates film permits for work in Mar Vista. Hedges and mature trees add privacy around the shooting areas, and the deck, stone path and rear brick court provide firm positions for equipment outside the planted beds.
